There was never a time when the time wasn't
There was never a time when it wasn't right to
Veer left and make room for the meek

Never the left careless unprotected deck
There was never a better time to stay the course

Right to the left to the wrong and come on

Strong the tide winds move our sand over
Moving right along course chart careful the Land
The hands that heed you the hands that need you

Hands on deck to duck the hands that deck you
Straight at the center of two oceans tack the skiff
Reach out in opposite directions connecting dots

Noah Purifoy California Council of Arts and that guy that built the Watts neighborhood a monument - Social Formations

Noah Purifoy was vaguely known to me.  What I knew of him was from conversational asides.  Being raised in San Diego, this was, "you know the guy that built the neighborhood Watts a monument from scrap, it's radical" was all I knew of his genius or extent of his body of work.
When given the time to visit LACMA to view the exhibition I leaped.
What I experienced was a strong connection. Movements held still and my breath too both visionary and auditory as though that were my profession in the moment.
These works thrilled me.  They are wholly contemporary forms, paying me currency as I stood to reinvent, re-stimulate, resound and invite, beg and sway me by presence to participation with them.  Do you feel the upward urgency to move your social standing, stand with those that did?
When you view these
I invite you to look through the photo of the first work.  In the door's window please imagine the possibility of harmony.
Have you been so happy that you couldn't care less you've got no elbow room?  For example, you sit at a table with best friends, they've brought dishes to the pot-luck, all unmatched linens, looked around feeling extreme joy in the moment?  Though your paycheck's too small there is rhyme yet in the moment because the pull from the edges came together in the center - and in the center were champions, personally drumming out in earnest each stroke,  at best to carry the beat, and you never notice a thing missed?

Have you listened with tears in your eyes to Billie Holiday sing Strange Fruit?

Mr. Purifoy,

Thank you for these gifts and sharing this talent.  I am pleased to have had the honor of seeing your works, to write a small section about how BIG I felt about them.

What I'm missing
Long
Late afternoons

Sad nothings to-do but
Work
On the jigsaw puzzle

Bored
With average sustenance

Build devilishly delicious

Pot du créme au chocolat

Seated inside

Too cool

Urge to smoke still present

At the best of my mess

Driving down a freeway no seatbelts

                                            Farmer's tan
Cat n mouse truck driver
                                                                Scares me to death

                                                                San Diego bound

Ain't nothing but corn and queso for fuel

                                                                Mixed with diesel

Don't mess with...

Austin

Tucson, Tijuana, tempted

Back by the standard of

Don't trust anyone over it
                                       I'm turning 30

Get a real job, just one, not two where days change to night

In an instant
                                       I gotta get back to
I gotta get back to

The best of my mess

In the eye of the bye and bye

Circle and born

Saying it by returning

Welded to unbroken in hot  Texas
Way out in the belly of forgotten
Pieced belies
Together friends
                                             I never knew

I had strummed my precious feathers

                                                                     Homed back
Pigeons seagulls

Surf upon arrival

It is not terrible

On being home

disabling and deleting the old tried true one blog from your past

It's never fun when you think you are going to try out a new blog template and you end up messing entirely with a good thing that wasn't broken and now has to be fixed ...

1.  Sick

2.  Forelorn

3.  Desperately miss my old format no longer available

4.  Not letting GO with LOVE

5.  Thinking that this is a lesson.
