The first time I heard the expression Retail Therapy my good friend Meredith used it to describe a monthly mood swing cure-all action as an action verb to boost our moods. We then hit Electric Ladyland, Amelias Retro-Vogue & Relics and Room Service where we filled our vintage shopping hearts to their content and then to buy music at Tower on Guadalupe.
To this day I consider shopping a dose of cheer and will always be thankful for the funny reckless verb now happily placed in my life's dictionary. Thank you to WIKIPEDIA for also having a nicely summarized version of the happening of this expression.
